Agriculture Awareness Weekend 2017 – Celebrating Agriculture in our Community

The Portage la Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Portage
Industrial Exhibition Association on an Agriculture Awareness Weekend.
This is an opportunity to celebrate and showcase Agriculture in our community!

The weekend will start with an Agriculture Appreciation Dinner. Dinner will focus on local foods and two awards will be handed out; Farm Family of the Year and Young Farmers of the Year.

 The 2017 Agriculture Appreciation Dinner is going to feature guest
Speaker Colleen Dyck, Owner and founder of GORP Energy Bars. 
GORP is a clean, all natural energy bar made on the Canadian Prairies.
Colleen is a dedicated wife and mother of 4, Colleen and her husband Grant run GORP from their family farm in Niverville, Manitoba. At 38, she has successfully marketed GORP as the energy bar for clean eating, healthy living, and mindful consumption. Colleen is a farmer with a great story of her passion and a dream that came true.

Agriculture Awareness Expo

Saturday will be an Agriculture Expo that will give the public a chance to explore the exciting
world of agriculture. It will give people a chance  see the vibrant and innovative side of agriculture.
All members of the public are welcome to come discover how agriculture impacts our daily lives.
They will:
– Meet farmers who grow the food you eat.
– Learn about all the exciting careers in agriculture
– Learn how science and research helps make our food safe, healthy and delicious.
– See how Manitoba crops are being used for food and non-food uses
– Sample locally grown food and what goes into making our food
and so much more.

The expo will also include a “Made in Manitoba Product Showcase”.
A table to sell your products will be $50 for the day.
